VALUATIONS

I am happy to do these for you and they may range from an informal verbal opinion to a full scale cataloguing including colour photography and bibliographies. There is no charge for this but I ask for an appropriate donation to my favourite charity for abandoned animals.

DELIVERY

There is no charge for delivery in southern Spain. For customers further afield you may have your own preferred shipper or type of shipping and if not I will find you the least expensive method.

STUDY GROUPS AND LECTURES

I also support, and lecture for, various branches of the Fine Arts Association and other groups interested in hand woven textiles. If you have a few friends and would like to know more about rugs in general or your particular favourites, please give me a call.

NEWSLETTERS

I have always written regular newsletters for my customers and you are welcome to receive back issues. The titles include “Living with the Afghans”, “Silk and the Silk Route”, “The Kurds”, “Southern Swedish rollakens”, “The skill of the restorer”, “How to deal with moth, beetle, flooding and fire damage”, “Kelims”, “Goats in their role in design and as weaving material”, “Dutch weaving from Deventer” and others.

CLEANING, REPAIR AND RESTORATION

There is no charge for an assessment and I will tell you what the piece is, where it is from, its current value and what it will be worth if restored. We do not do unjustified work. In many cases the rug merely needs gentle hand washing and the loose ends or sides secured which means it will then go on for another million footsteps. Some recent examples of full restoration have been a Brussels tapestry from circa 1750, a large antique Spanish carpet from the Royal Carpet Factory in Madrid, an exquisite antique Turkoman bag face and an antique Kazak dated 1896 which was holed by a burning log.

Although my Studio is small you are welcome to make an appointment to visit and watch restoration taking place or to use the huge library to find out more about your pieces.
