This North-West Persian Kurdish lady is filling her hand woven storage bags prior to moving camp.

A Kashkai nomadic family inside their tent in southern Persia. Kilims are used for bedding and during the day cover the storage bags in the background.

ANTIQUE CARPET WEAVING BEATING COMB This is quite different from the more primitive beating combs used in the rural areas of Persia by tribal and village weavers. It is quite sophisticated and the hardwood handle and length of hand beaten metal teeth give it the weight required to beat down the weft threads between rows of knots. Persian city work, circa 1900. Reference 1980. Size - 32 cms. long. Euros 90.

ANTIQUE PERSIAN BRASS LADLE This would have been hand made in the bazaar and used in the kitchen of the owner to serve food from the cooking pots. It is an example of artisanal work no longer seen in a modern society. Ref. 2184. Size 84 cms. high. Euros 85.

AFGHAN STORAGE BAG An old and unusually large bag with magnificent workmanship and weave on both front and reverse sides. It is complete with the original fastening loops and originates from the town of Labijar, which is in north west Afghanistan. There appear to be no similar pieces published. The bags are in excellent condition and complete with the original goat hair fastening loops. PERSIAN ARTIFACT A wonderful example of hand beaten and hand made work by Persian craftsmen. This water jug would have been for use in a city house. The lid, surmounted by a bird, is particularly attractive and the piece dates from the first half, 20th century. Ref. 1976. Size 54 cms. high. Euros 325.

ANTIQUE TURKISH COFFEE POT a beautiful and elegant brass coffee pot from western Anatolia (Asiatic Turkey). It dates from the late 1800's and is hand made and is in excellent condition. Reference 1983. Size 34cms. high. Euros 165.

ANTIQUE COPPER AND BRASS POT jugs such as this are used to pour water or fruit juices by street vendors. It is probably from the region of Istanbul from the late 19th century. The spout is particularly attractive. Reference 1986. Size 34cms high. Euros 95.

UZBEKISTAN TENT BAND. Bands of this nature are used to decorate the inside of a yurt or tent, often on ceremonial occasions. This one is unusually long and is the same length as the internal circumference of a yurt. There are 18 panels, each displaying floral motifs and it is complete with its original backing and is in excellent condition. It dates from the early 1900's. Reference 1829. 43 x 457cms. €360.

TURKOMAN TRIBAL BAG This is an exceptionally fine Yamut weaving. On first glance it appears that it is made of two camel knee pads joined together to form a small bag or purse. However, close examination shows it was specifically woven in one piece, then folded over and overcast. Reference 1863. 13 x 22cms. Euros 350.
